US Virgin Islands (USVI) were devastated by Irma and Maria, two catastrophic
hurricanes over a two week period. Medical personnel from Florida Hospital
and ADU’s Master of Healthcare Administration program visited the USVI to help
with immediate medical relief efforts and assess long-term healthcare needs.
ADU students want to help the Lockhart Elementary School return to full
operational condition and the over 200 individuals who sheltered
there. Cleaning supplies, food items as well as clothing and shoes for
children are critical current needs.
and ADU students are collaborating with the clinical leaders of the Schneider
Regional Medical Center (the only hospital serving the Islands) to develop a
curriculum that will assist in enhancing their medical-surgical nurses
professional development with critical care knowledge and coaching; “growing
their own” while enabling them to utilize their skills in their ED and ICU.
